The Dell Inspiron 14 7000 is placed below Dell’s relatively high, more capable XPS line, although you’d never know it from looking at it or from the price. The new Dell Inspiron 14 7000 (especially the 7490) features a magnesium-alloy casing that’s nearly as slim, lightweight, and strong as an XPS casing, and the ultrabook manages to squeeze a 14-inch display into a 13-inch form factor for this price. It features Intel’s 11th Generation “Comet Lake” CPUs and optionally Nvidia GeForce MX250 dedicated graphics (but we opted for Iris Xe graphics).

Unless you want the 4K (3,840-by-2,160-pixel) resolution available with Dell’s XPS 13—and I’d suggest you really shouldn’t in a 13.3- or 14-inch display size Inspiron 14 7000 is the ultrabook to possess and our Editors’ Choice award.
Aside from the black rings, the machine is a silver vision. The top, keyboard surface, and buttons are all a light silver hue. If you have a habit of leaving the keyboard backlit on all the time, you’ll need to overcome that behavior; in a brilliantly lit room, the silver keys give little contrast against the backlit, leaving the keyboard a mystery clean slate. I would have chosen standard black keys.
