Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Review
What is the Lenovo Chromebook Duet? Its the 10.1-inch tablet with keyboard and kickstand that’s been championing as a great buy ever since. The little detachable Chromebook is still a steal, but the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook is something else entirely—a bigger 2-in-1 tablet with a 13.3-inch OLED touch panel with a super colorful, ultra-high-contrast display. There are speedier and less expensive traditional Chromebooks, but the new Duet outperforms the previously reviewed HP Chromebook x2 if you want a tablet that also functions as a laptop. As a premium Chromebook convertible, it receives an Editors’ Choice award.
The Duet 5 is powered by a slightly faster version of the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c microprocessor seen in the HP Chromebook x2. At Lenovo.com, the base variant of the Duet 5 costs $429.99 and includes a Storm Gray keyboard cover and rear kickstand panel, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC flash storage. Our $499 test device is an Abyss Blue Best Buy model with 8GB of RAM and 128Gb of onboard storage.
The Duet 5 comes with two fabric attachments that automatically latch onto the back and bottom edges: a rear cover with a fold-out pedestal for propping up the display in notebook configuration, and a keyboards cover with touchpad. Rather than having a foldable mechanism to give it a small tilt, like many removable keyboards do, the non-backlit keyboard rests flat on your table. The three components weigh a total of 2.24 pounds.
