Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Review
The Lenovo ThinkPad P1 is a lightweight portable workstation but not a “lite” mobile workstation for it’s price. Instead, it’s a slim, mean designing machine that’s well-suited for engineering, graphics, visual effects and video editing, and data science. It comes dangerously close to unseating our Editors’ Choice for laptop workstations, the Dell Precision 5530, and potentially outperforms it in screen and keyboard quality. The ThinkPad P1 is an essential for Lenovo fans who find the ThinkPad P51 or ThinkPad P52 too bulky and the slimmer ThinkPad P52s insufficiently powerful in a reasonable price category.
It’s a workplace version of Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Extreme, a 15.6-inch competitor to multimedia powerhouses like the XPS 15 and Apple MacBook Pro. Prices begin at $1,655 for a quad-core Core i5 model with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and a 300-nit (1,920-by-1,080-pixel) screen. All in all, it’s a good enough choice for professionals.
