Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4 Review
We’d be raving about the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4 (starts at $1,639; $1,907 as tested) if we hadn’t just evaluated the latest Dell XPS 15 OLED. One of our favorite features of last year’s X1 Extreme Gen 3 was its beautiful OLED display. The new Lenovo ditches the usual 15.6-inch diagonal and 16:9 aspect ratio in favor of a 16-inch display with a slightly larger 16:10 profile, but unlike the Dell, Lenovo doesn’t offer an OLED version, only three IPS panels. That’s a letdown in a premium laptop, but the X1 Extreme is still a stylish, equipped racer that will entice executives looking for a fancy desktop replacement.
The ThinkPad X1 Extreme, like competitors such as the XPS 15, the 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro, and the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XC, is an exceptional laptop for digital content creators who don’t require the independent software vendor (ISV) certifications of a packed mobile workstation. It’s not cheap, but even the entry-level model includes an eight-core Intel Core i7-11800H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics which makes it a powerful laptop even if you play games on it.
